BAE SYSTEMS choose HI-FOG for Halon replacement

HI-FOG has been chosen to replace Halon systems at the BAE SYSTEMS facilities at Warton and Samlesbury, near Preston, two of the largest aircraft research, development and manufacturing sites in the UK which design, build and test key parts for military aircraft including the new Eurofighter, and US Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

HI-FOG light hazard application

Critical computer rooms, telephone exchanges and aircraft electronic development laboratories will be protected by specially engineered HI-FOG light hazard systems using MAU (Machinery Accumulator Unit) & GPUs (Gas driven Pump Units). In this application the pipework is only water filled after a confirmed signal from the detection system.

Jonathan Cassidy

Jonathan Cassidy, Insurance Services Manager for BAE SYSTEMS PLC explained: "With the Montreal Protocol being incorporated into European legislation we had to assess what, if any, fixed protection systems we needed to replace our existing Halon systems. We went through a review process; looking at sprinklers, water mist and the various Halocarbon and inert gases; and chose water mist as the best alternative for our needs.

After a tendering process Marioff emerged as our preferred contractor. We were particularly impressed by Marioff's technical capability and willingness to demonstrate that their systems would provide the optimum solution for our business at an affordable price."
