University Hospital Muenster adopts HI-FOG®

University Hospital Muenster is fire protected by HI-FOG

MUENSTER: Hospitals play the central role in promoting public health. Governments invest substantially and continuously in hospital technology and the education of hospital personnel. Protecting these investments and the human beings they are ultimately made for is of great concern, with fire one of the greatest threats.

Hospital fire protection is a critical area of expertise and a unique challenge which is met head-on by the HI-FOG® Water Mist Fire Protection System. First, HI-FOG® water mist is a very effective fire fighting agent that deals effectively with every type of fire that can occur in the hospital environment.

Second, HI-FOG® uses very little water in comparison with conventional sprinkler systems (up to 85% less) and causes an absolute minimum of water damage upon activation. Third, the HI-FOG® system is a clean system that is up to the high hygienic standards of hospitals: the water is kept pure and clean; the system’s main components are made of high-grade stainless steel.

Fourth, HI-FOG® can be retrofitted in a hospital without disrupting its operations. The HI-FOG® system uses small tubes (ranging from 12 mm to 38 mm in diameter) which are installed with a minimum of disruption to the hospital’s existing systems. The pump unit takes up very little space where it is at a premium – the hospital’s technical rooms.

This is the background to the adoption of HI-FOG® by one of Germany’s largest hospitals. After an installation project spanning seven months, HI-FOG® is now protecting the bedroom towers and related technical rooms of the University Hospital Muenster. At this stage, a total of 48 floors across 4 towers are protected by around 3,200 HI-FOG® 2000-series sprinklers. The system is fully approved by VdS Schadenverhütung, Germany’s independent institution for the certification of fire prevention and safety technology.

The system was installed with a minimum of disruption to hospital operations. The very ambitious schedule was adhered to thanks to close cooperation between the Marioff installers and the hospital staff. Marioff is proud to have met the fire protection requirements of the University Hospital Muenster, and looks forward to providing excellent service in a continuing relationship.
